This body of work addresses the hybrid body; I'm performing body modifications to these individual pieces by cutting them apart and fusing them back together. This sort of process reinforces the anatomical awkwardness seen in the work and comments on the “classical body” and the portrayal of beauty in Western culture. I’m rejecting perfection and am quietly revealing the grotesque fragility of the human body. I am addressing the human body’s ability to be an earthly home for a soul, but also am aware that these torso forms are essentially empty vessels and appear light or hollow, therefore, soulless.
